The aim of this research is to analyze the cultural identity of traders at the Municipal Market in Montes Claros - MG, based on oral memory. This article also sought to identify the importance of the Municipal Market as a heritage of cultural memory. To this end, the research was guided by the methodology of Oral History. This method made it possible to investigate the frames of reference in the cultural identity of these subjects, based on historical narratives and the oral memory of the individuals themselves. Our theoretical framework is based on the studies of authors who emphasize the importance of local culture and oral memory in interpreting reality and shaping identity. For the traders, the market is a place with its own peculiarities, references and meanings. This historical context reveals its diversity, a place that intertwines memories, ancestral traditions, identity references and stories, taking on a meaning that partly makes up their lives as a place of work, entertainment, in short, it becomes a reference of experiences, constituting a place/ heritage of memory for individuals and the city.
