Improper disposal of medicines is a common practice that poses serious risks to the environment and public health. This study was conducted in Juazeiro do Norte, CE, with the aim of investigating and analyzing the impact of improper disposal of medicines and proposing awareness-raising measures. Using a mixed-method approach, questionnaires were applied and interviews were conducted with 300 participants, including students and local residents. The results indicated that most of the interviewees were unaware of the risks of improper disposal and that the implementation of an awareness campaign significantly reduced inappropriate disposal practices. The campaign increased knowledge about collection points, with 85% of the participants stating that they knew where to dispose of medicines correctly. This study highlights the importance of environmental education and the implementation of accessible collection points to promote sustainable practices. Limitations include the sample size and duration of the campaign. Future studies should consider a larger sample and a longer follow-up period, in addition to exploring the effectiveness of different educational strategies and partnerships with government agencies and collection companies to improve reverse logistics of medicines.
