Introduction: The expression “obstetric violence” (VO) is used to describe and include numerous actions of violence during professional obstetric practice. It groups physical, psychological, and verbal abuse, perpetrated against women during childbirth. There are constant reports of mistreatment suffered by women, not only during childbirth, but throughout the process of pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium that violate their dignity and respect. The nurse must know the various forms of obstetric violence, identify the bioethical principles that are neglected and the violation of women's rights, aiming at a humanized assistance to women in the pre-delivery and delivery. Objectives: to investigate the behaviors that constitute obstetric violence and its consequences for the woman who experienced it. Material and Methods: a bibliographic review was carried out, investigating scientific articles published from 2010 to 2020 in the VHL databases: Scielo, Lilacs, in the BTD and materials from government websites with the descriptors obstetric violence and assistance to childbirth and humanized childbirth. Results and Discussions: Conducts that constitute VO to Episotomy without indication, Kristeller Maneuver, Escort Right Denied, Routine Trichotomy, Routine Enema, Fasting, Amniotomy, Synthetic Oxytocin of Routine and Verbal and Psychological Violence are considered conducts that constitute VO. The consequences of VO were discussed in the categories Episotomy without indication, Kristeller Maneuver, Right of Companion Denied, Routine Trichotomy, Routine Enema, Fasting, Amniotomy, Routine Synthetic Oxytocin and Verbal and Psychological Violence. Final Considerations: It is necessary that the professional nursing professionals recognize the various forms of obstetric violence, reflect on the consequences for women, identify the bioethical principles that are neglected and the constant violation of the rights of these women. It is possible, therefore, to promote assistance centered on the woman and not on the doctor, ensuring that the parturient is cared for in a humanized way.
