Abstract

This article aims to present initial knowledge on basic ballistics for police officers during their public security service. This study used applied and qualitative research, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, based on bibliographic and documentary foundations, to present the proposed theme. The results achieved in the research demonstrate the relevance of understanding basic concepts of ballistics and its typologies, in addition to the practical application in public security activities in the use of firearms, which correlates with the legal field, and sometimes with the medical field, in addition to the fact that such research presented an initial discussion on the myths of shooting. Thus, the problem must be addressed by adopting regulations on the subject, by training these public agents, as well as by conducting new research on the subject, providing better protection for themselves and citizens.
