INTRODUCTION: Humanized care for low-birth-weight newborns is an approach to care that places the baby and his/her family at the center of the process. In the context of the Kangaroo method, this approach focuses on promoting early skin-to-skin contact between the mother (or caregiver) and the baby, providing a safe and warm environment that stimulates the emotional bond and favors healthy development. This practice not only promotes the baby's physical development, but also strengthens the emotional bonds between the family and the newborn, contributing to better long-term results. OBJECTIVE: To understand the perspective that nursing presents regarding the Kangaroo Method, highlighting its interventions and contributions to health promotion. METHODS: This study consists of an integrative review, carried out through the databases of Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library On-line (SCIELO), PubMed and Virtual Health Library BVS-BIREME, using the controlled descriptors in health: Kangaroo Method; skin-to-skin contact; nursing practices; perinatal care To conduct this study, the following inclusion criteria were used: complete original articles, available online and free of charge, published in the last five years in Portuguese; and studies presented in duplicate were excluded. The data were presented in tables and analyzed using the relevant literature. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The reviewed studies demonstrate that the Kangaroo Method (KM) brings benefits not only to the newborn, but also to the family, promoting humanized care in neonatal care. Among the main benefits are increased weight, temperature control, respiratory stabilization, strengthening of emotional bonds and greater autonomy of parents in care. These effects contribute to the healthy growth and development of the baby, in addition to reducing the length of hospital stay and encouraging breastfeeding. Understanding these benefits allows nurses to adjust their practices, improving the results in neonatal care. CONCLUSION: The Kangaroo Method (KM) offers humanized care that strengthens the bond between mother and baby, promoting stability for the newborn and encouraging breastfeeding. Nursing, essential in this process, guides and supports the mother, ensuring safety and autonomy during the baby's recovery. With this, the MC integrates technical and emotional support, reducing the length of hospitalization and valuing family well-being.
