The growing use of social media for disseminating information about medications raises concerns about self-medication and the irrational use of drugs. This paper aims to propose an evaluation protocol that allows the identification and monitoring of content on social media that encourages the inappropriate use of medications. The methodology includes the development of a structured checklist with objective criteria, divided into six main topics: Source identification, Information quality, Encouragement to consult healthcare professionals, Sensationalist content, Monitoring of comments, and Promotion of medication purchases. The proposal aims to provide a practical tool for healthcare professionals and researchers, contributing to the promotion of responsible medication use and awareness of the risks associated with self-medication. By implementing this protocol, it is expected to improve the quality of information available on digital platforms and reduce inappropriate behaviors related to medication consumption. Additionally, the protocol may also be used in future research to monitor the impact of social media on public health and the promotion of safer consumption habits.
