Abstract

Introduction: Cushing's syndrome, characterized by hypersecretion of cortisol, has a significant impact on general health, especially in women of childbearing age. This condition can result from several causes, including pituitary and adrenal tumors. The obstetric implications of the syndrome are diverse, as it can affect fertility, pregnancy, and fetal health. Studies have shown that women with Cushing's syndrome may face complications such as hypertension, gestational diabetes, and intrauterine growth restriction. In addition, the hormonal changes caused by the syndrome can negatively influence the course of pregnancy and perinatal health, making obstetric monitoring essential for this population. Objective: To analyze the obstetric implications of Cushing's syndrome in women of childbearing age. Methodology: The methodology adopted followed the PRISMA checklist, using the PubMed, Scielo, and Web of Science databases. The five descriptors used were "Cushing's syndrome", "pregnancy", "obstetric complications", "fertility" and "hormones". Inclusion criteria consisted of studies that addressed women of childbearing age diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome, articles published in the last 10 years and that discussed obstetric implications. Exclusion criteria were articles that did not present original data, studies that did not focus on the population of interest and reviews that did not address gestational complications. Results: Cushing's syndrome in women of childbearing age is associated with an increased risk of complications such as preeclampsia, spontaneous abortions and premature births. In addition, it was observed that preconception treatment can improve obstetric outcomes. Appropriate management of the syndrome, together with a multidisciplinary approach, was identified as essential to minimize risks. Conclusion: Cushing's syndrome has important obstetric implications that require special attention during pregnancy. Understanding the associated complications and adopting management strategies are essential to ensure maternal and fetal health and optimize pregnancy outcomes.
