Introduction: Vasectomy is described as a simple, safe, and fast contraceptive method. However, despite its known advantages, its practice is not common. Although the number of surgeries has increased in the country since its inclusion in the list of procedures funded by the Unified Health System, vasectomy is a permanent, popular, highly effective, and relatively low-cost reproductive planning method, without major risks to the patient's life and health. It is important to highlight that vasectomy is a contraceptive method that involves cutting or blocking the vas deferens, preventing the passage of sperm. Therefore, before opting for surgery, it is essential that the man is sure and aware that he does not want to have biological children in the future, as it is very difficult to reverse. Objective: To describe how health professionals in Primary Health Care (PHC) play a crucial role in the process of demonstrating the contraceptive method: vasectomy, encompassing the procedure, risks, and benefits. Methodology: This is an exploratory-descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The exploratory aspect was linked to the opportunity to expand knowledge about the phenomenon - men's health care in the context of vasectomy. To develop this research method, we approached articles covering dates in the years between 2022 and 2024. Selected articles in Portuguese were used, in scientific databases, such as: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Virtual Health Library of the Ministry of Health (BVS), using the descriptors: Law 14.443/2022; Family Planning; Vasectomy; Men's Reproductive Health; History of Vasectomy, Masculinity in Vasectomy. Results and Discussion: It was evidenced that, in addition, they must demystify erroneous ideas associated with vasectomy, such as loss of masculinity or impairment of sexual functionality. Counseling should be carried out on an individual basis, taking into account the patient's particularities and needs: issues such as age, marital status, general health and family support should also be addressed during guidance. The health professional should encourage open dialogue, offering space for the man to share his doubts, concerns and expectations regarding the vasectomy. It is important to emphasize that the final decision about whether to undergo a vasectomy is up to the individual himself, taking into account all the information and guidance provided by health professionals. Conclusion: It was concluded that it is essential that health professionals, including doctors, nurses, psychologists and social workers, are engaged in this process, offering emotional support and providing additional information, if necessary encouraging men to consider vasectomy as a reproductive planning option, ensuring that they have access to the necessary information to make an informed and conscious decision.
