Abstract

This study investigates the causes, manifestations, and impacts of moral harassment in higher education institutions, proposing solutions to prevent and combat this practice. The objective is to analyze how organizational and cultural conditions influence the occurrence of moral harassment and identify effective measures to mitigate it. The methodology used is a bibliographic review, based on scientific articles, theses, and official documents. The introduction presents the topic, highlighting the relevance of moral harassment in educational institutions and the need for a healthy educational environment. The development of the work addresses three main topics: definition and characteristics of moral harassment, influence of organizational culture, and the impacts of moral harassment. The first topic defines moral harassment as repetitive abusive practices that aim to humiliate and psychologically destabilize the victim, based on the studies of Vico Mañas (2010) and Nunes (2016). The second topic discusses how organizational culture can favor harassment, highlighting the lack of transparency and reporting mechanisms, as pointed out by Nunes (2016) and Silva (2005). The third topic analyzes the impacts of moral harassment, including mental and physical health problems, as well as damage to productivity and the organizational climate, as described in the Ministry of Infrastructure's booklet (2023) and in the studies by Nunes (2016). The final considerations confirm that the study's objective was achieved, demonstrating the need for policies, ongoing training, and support mechanisms to prevent moral harassment.
