Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) requires rapid intervention to restore blood flow and minimize damage to cardiac tissue. The administration of thrombolytics in the prehospital setting has been studied as a way to reduce reperfusion time and improve patient outcomes. Objective: To evaluate the benefits of prehospital administration of thrombolytics in the treatment of AMI. Methods: Review of clinical studies and meta-analyses comparing prehospital administration of thrombolytics with hospital administration. Results: Prehospital administration of thrombolytics can significantly reduce the time to reperfusion, without significant changes in outcomes such as mortality and functional independence, but with benefits in terms of improving cardiac function after AMI compared to late hospital administration. Conclusion: The use of thrombolytics in the prehospital setting is effective and has significant benefits in the treatment of AMI, and its adoption in emergency care protocols is recommended.
