HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY IN FELINES: LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

Cardiomyopathies are the relevant heart diseases in cats and among their various phenotypes, the most common is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. This condition is characterized by concentric hypertrophy of the left ventricle (LV) leading to decreased diastolic function leading to the development of clinical signs. It has a varied etiology, the final diagnosis method is usually by imaging and the treatment is palliative aiming at controlling the clinical signs and progression of the disease. The current bibliography review aimed to present a bibliographic survey using current sources on the disease, evidencing several relevant aspects such as its etiology, pathophysiology, clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment. Considering that this disease is common in the clinical routine of felines, the current study contributes to a greater understanding of this situation through the combination of updated and simplified information.
