Objective: To demonstrate whether closure of PFO is an effective therapy for the treatment of migraine. Methods: A search for previous studies contained in the PubMed and Virtual Health Library platforms was conducted using the keywords "patent foramen ovale," "migraine," and "treatment." Articles published in the last 10 years (from 2013 to 2023), with full texts available, and limiting the selection to controlled clinical trials and observational studies were included. Articles that were not directly related to the proposed topic and duplicate articles were excluded, resulting in a total of 11 scientific articles. Results: The identification and understanding of important factors such as risk factors, appropriate patient selection, and long-term monitoring contribute to the efficacy and safety of PFO closure for treating migraine. Final considerations: Thus, through the analysis of the selected studies, it was observed that PFO closure is a safe and effective therapy for the treatment of migraine.
