Strabismus surgery is a technique that can be performed using different surgical approaches. The aim of this study was to review indications and techniques, and compare results. The research included studies published in the last 20 years, extracted from databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library. Randomized clinical studies, controlled trials, and case series that described procedures such as recession and resection of extraocular muscles, muscle transposition, and minimally invasive techniques were analyzed. The results demonstrate that the effectiveness of surgical techniques varies according to the type and severity of strabismus, in addition to individual patient factors. It is concluded that the choice of surgical approach should be personalized, based on a comprehensive and careful evaluation of each case, aiming to optimize functional and aesthetic results for patients.
