The incidence of cases of diabetes mellitus (DM) is present in society and the number of people with complications from this condition is gradually increasing. In addition, it is observed that the complications resulting from this chronic disease have also increased and that this target audience is unaware of the seriousness of these complications. The aim of the research was to investigate scientific production on the role of nurses in the prevention, diagnosis and control of diabetic neuropathy, describing the care, difficulties and reality of patients, through the analysis of relevant scientific articles in databases such as Scopus; Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo); Google Scholar; PePSIC and to identify and synthesize the most effective nursing interventions for the management of diabetic neuropathy, including strategies for preventing complications, controlling pain, promoting adherence to treatment and improving quality of life. We conclude that caring for DND is a major responsibility for nurses and that action plans developed to prevent, care for and promote quality of life, together with commitment and technical competence, make it possible to develop more humane care focused on self-care.
