Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory disease in children, and inhaled corticosteroids (IC) are the most effective treatment for persistent asthma. Mometasone furoate (MF) is a potent corticosteroid with low systemic bioavailability and high affinity for glucocorticoids, showing efficacy in improving lung function and preventing exacerbations in studies. However, its efficacy in children has not been fully established. This review assessed the efficacy and safety of MF in asthmatic children, indicating significant improvements in lung function and few adverse effects. Compared to other treatments, such as budesonide, MF proved to be superior in efficacy. However, the effects on long-term child growth with ICs still need to be fully understood. It is concluded that MF is an effective and safe option for treating pediatric asthma, but more studies are needed to confirm its long-term safety profile.
