Complications arising from incorrect veneers have become increasingly common due to the growing interest in aesthetic procedures. These are indicated for patients who need them, or for some reason feel dissatisfied with their teeth. To achieve the desired success, periodontal principles must be respected, together with satisfactory aesthetics. However, some habits, such as bruxism, malocclusion and poor oral hygiene, can contribute to clinical failure. The aim of this study was to carry out a narrative literature review in order to highlight the main complications arising from the incorrect execution of veneers, emphasizing setbacks caused by the technique applied, poor adaptation and professional mastery. The documentary and methodological structure of the research was based on a review of current scientific literature. Scientific articles in English and Portuguese were selected, taking as a time frame (2014-2024), retrieved from the following data bases: Scielo, medical publications (PubMed), Google Scholar, theses and others, as well as books. There is a range of studies in the literature that report the importance of knowledge about periodontal tissues, proper technique on the part of dental surgeons and the particularities of each patient. Individual planning is fundamental to the aesthetic and functional success of each case.
