VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CURRENT LEGISLATION

Introduction: Violence against women is an evil that affects the dignity, well-being and lives of victims as well as their families and society as a whole. Facing it is a commitment that everyone must make to guarantee the common good and that everyone, without exception, has essential rights. Objective: To present the evolution of laws protecting women and their regulation in the face of violence, and the guarantees of rights they bring. Method: This is a bibliographic review of the literature, presenting data collection carried out from secondary sources of laws that deal with the topic of violence against women and protection of women, experiencing the adjustments of jurisprudence to each new situation encountered and the application of protection and prevention over time, experiencing the struggle to protect the causes and prevention measures of violence against women. The search strategy was based on the principle of comprehensiveness, for this reason, secondary sources extracted from law books and government websites that portray legislation extracted from Scielo and the Federal Senate were used in the database. Results: Numerous laws have emerged to provide legal protection for women in Brazilian legislation and, consequently, gender equality. Among them is the Maria da Penha Law, a legal device of a procedural and non-material nature that aims at equality between men and women, and defines five forms of violence against women. Conclusion: An evolution was observed in the Laws protecting women and their regulation in the face of violence, an evil that affects the dignity and well-being of victims, as well as society.
