Abstract

Parrots have increasingly gained space among companion animals and, as a result, environmental enrichment techniques are necessary to improve the quality of life of these animals that are under human care. These techniques make the environment more complex, challenging and simulate the natural environment, thus reducing the boredom of the captive environment. The problem at hand is: how to minimize undesirable behaviors and stress in birds bred in captivity? The general objective of this work is to understand the benefits that environmental enrichment can provide to birds raised in captivity, and the specific objectives are: to evaluate the characteristics and natural behavior of parrots; identify behavioral deviations in captive-bred parrots; and evaluate the implementation of environmental enrichment techniques for parrots in captivity. The methodology adopted is bibliographic and documentary in nature with a qualitative approach. The results obtained from this research are important for parrot breeders and producers to have greater clarity on how to conduct appropriate breeding and on the benefits that environmental enrichment can bring in relation to health, well-being and quality of life for animals. your birds.
