Cryotherapy in endodontics is based on inserting saline solutions at low temperatures between 1.5 to 5ºC into the root canal and is emerging as a successful alternative for controlling postoperative pain in endodontic treatments. Therefore, the proposed study will address the following problem: is the intracanal cryotherapy procedure an efficient and effective method in clinical dental practice? Soon after, the general objective is proposed, which consists of analyzing the effectiveness of the cryotherapy technique in controlling post-endodontic pain. Furthermore, the specific objectives: understand the quality of this method through randomized clinical trials, verify the protocols and standards used and present the mechanisms of action of this procedure. The methodology used will be a qualitative approach, based on bibliographical research with a review of published books and articles. Several studies were used in this literature review, after an analysis and verification of reliable searches such as PubMed and Google Scholar. Results: intracanal cryotherapy has demonstrated satisfactory and promising solutions for postoperative analgesia in endodontic treatments with high demonstrative potential. However, more research and studies are essential to improve its clinical application and standards for its use. In order to consolidate its effectiveness, protocols and methods of use, it is necessary to carry out more additional clinical experiments to prove and improve the factors that involve pain after endodontic treatment.
