Introduction: Breast cancer has been considered, at a global and national level, a complex public health problem, due to its epidemiological, social and economic importance. As it is a disease associated with high mortality, it is necessary to analyze the pathology's risk indicators in order to prevent and protect the population of women from this outcome. Therefore, understanding risk indicators helps prevent breast cancer in women, in addition to strengthening screening and early diagnosis. Objective: To highlight primary prevention and early screening of breast cancer in women. Methods: This research is a narrative literature review. Narrative literature review: Breast cancer does not have a specific cause. There are several risk indicators related to the increased development of the disease, such as: age, endocrine factors, reproductive history, behavioral and genetic factors. The initial strategy for the early detection of breast cancer encompasses different screening actions such as breast self-examination carried out by the woman herself. Favoring screening and early diagnosis. Conclusion: Knowledge and care regarding the management of breast cancer in women will be essential for reducing and protecting the disease, as well as facilitating self-examination, favoring the identification of the first signs and symptoms. Leading women to seek support for screening and early diagnosis. Thus, preventing mortality and enabling satisfactory prognoses.
