The objective of this article was to reflect on the contributions of Social Sciences to Education, highlighting some important issues from the point of view of Sociology. Starting from the problem: What is the role of the sociologist in Brazilian education? The specific objectives were outlined: contextualizing the role of the sociologist in contemporary times and their role in school; contribute to the development of critical thinking, promoting students’ contact with their reality; improve knowledge regarding the social circumstances in which we are involved and provide greater chances of controlling the problems linked to these circumstances. This is a qualitative study, of a bibliographic nature, using literature relevant to the topic, analyzing books, articles and research carried out from a sociological perspective. The relevance of this study centered on the justification for seeing Sociology as a discipline that seeks to identify real and meaningful possibilities for the formation of social individuals, observing the importance of the sociologist teacher in the school context through teaching in Social Sciences. The objectives were being achieved as they were developed, which made it possible to establish an alignment between Sociology and the performance of the subject teacher. The conclusions pointed to a propositional reading regarding the rapprochement between Social Sciences and Education.
