This article aims to analyze the importance of reading in an individual's social life, the barriers that many encounter when developing the habit and pleasure of reading and the family's contribution to the formation of readers. We understand that reading is vital for learning and building human beings, as it is through reading that we expand our vocabulary, increase our imagination, experience new experiences, acquire knowledge and become capable of understanding the world around us. However, many say they don't like it or don't have the patience to read it. This often happens because some individuals only have their first contact with reading when they arrive at school and reading is imposed on them as an obligation, where activities with texts are mechanical and do not encourage reading for pleasure. Furthermore, current technologies make people become immersed in the digital world and no longer have an interest in reading books. Therefore, we emphasize that the habit of reading should be encouraged by the individual's family from childhood, so that they learn from an early age that reading is something important and pleasurable.
