This literature review article examines the importance of diversity and multiculturalism in contemporary education. Cultural diversity is recognized as a fundamental characteristic of modern societies, and its reflection in the educational environment is crucial to promote inclusion and equity. Through a comprehensive analysis of academic literature, this study explores the various dimensions of diversity in education, including ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious, gender, and sexual orientation differences. Promoting diversity in education is considered essential to prepare students to live in increasingly pluralistic and interconnected societies. By recognizing and valuing students' different identities and perspectives, educational institutions can create more inclusive and enriching learning environments. Furthermore, multicultural education is seen as a powerful tool to combat prejudice, discrimination and social exclusion, promoting tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. However, the effective implementation of inclusive policies and practices faces several challenges, including cultural resistance, lack of resources and the need for adequate training for educators. Therefore, pedagogical approaches sensitive to students' cultural and ethnic differences are needed, as well as collaborative strategies between schools, families and communities. The importance of creating educational environments that celebrate diversity, promote social justice and prepare students to become globally aware and socially responsible citizens is highlighted.
