KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HORMONAL CONTRACEPTIVE METHODS AMONG NURSING STUDENTS

Contraceptive methods are all the resources used by men and women to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. The most commonly used are oral hormonal contraceptives. Some of the main benefits of hormonal contraceptives are: regularize menstrual cycles; reduce rates of iron deficiency anemia and, by inhibiting ovulation, alleviate abdominal pain caused by ovarian cysts, in addition to preventing pregnancy. Among the complications of its use are: possibility of breast cancer and thrombosis. These drugs may change their effects if taken concomitantly with other drugs, such as antibiotics. The objective of the study is to describe the knowledge of the academics of the Nursing course of a public university in the State of Goiás about hormonal contraceptive methods. This is an exploratory, descriptive and cross-sectional study, which had 92 nursing students as participants. Data was collected through a Google Forms eletronic form in February 2021. It was discovered that the predominant profile of interviewees is: aged between 18 and 30 years old, single, without children, catholic, with 70% of them reporting that they use or have used hormonal contraceptive methods and of these, 55% for an amount of time between 2 and 5 years, whose main purpose of use is the prevention of pregnancy. They also mention that they use it under professional guidance; correctly and who know the drug interactions of the hormonal contraceptive method.
