Objective – This study aimed to identify the risk factors to which users of combined contraceptive methods are exposed. Methods- A total of 27 articles were analyzed, with 23 found in LILACS and the remaining 4 in SCIELO. These articles were examined based on the exclusion criteria of this study and using the descriptors: Contraceptives, risk factors, comorbidities, women, hormonal contraceptives. Results- It was identified that women with pre-existing comorbidities are more prone to experiencing accidents with the use of these methods. The primary events that occur include weight gain, headaches, and in more severe cases, myocardial infarction and thrombosis. Contraceptive methods may have advantages and disadvantages for women, with the most cited advantages being cycle regularization, reduction of menstrual cramps, and assistance in acne control. Conclusion- According to the analysis of the 27 articles in this study, the use of hormonal contraceptives was found to have a series of health disadvantages for users, particularly those with pre-existing comorbidities or habits. In women without comorbidities, these contraceptives may cause accidents but with a lower risk due to the absence of predisposing factors, and generally, these women experience mild adverse effects with the use of these methods.
