Abstract

HAIs are caused by multi-resistant bacteria found in different environments, such as hospitals. Hospitals are a reservoir of microorganisms in healthcare services capable of contaminating countless people. Given the context presented, the general objective of the research is to analyze the influence of hospital infrastructure on the prevention of infections related to nursing care. This research is an integrative review, and was carried out through a bibliographic search. The inclusion criteria were published articles that analyzed the influence of the hospital structure on the prevention of health-related infections in studies in English or Portuguese from January 2019 to July 2024; and be related to the theme of the present study. The process of searching and selecting studies involved reading the title and abstract and then the selected article was read in full. The following variables were obtained from each study: (1) author, (2) year of publication, (4) objective of the study, (5) methodology used (6) results and (7) conclusion. The main cause of HAIs is related to the patient predisposed to infection and the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures used, however, as explained throughout the study, the structural space of health units, as well as the criteria for cleaning and disinfecting the environment, as well as The hygiene habits of nurses and healthcare professionals constitute the preponderant factors when considering the possibility of environmental influence on the spread and transmission of pathogens. Faced with the dangers of contamination of more serious diseases and even the development of death, it is essential to maintain environmental surfaces and sanitary conditions sufficient to prevent the maintenance of pathogens in hospital environments. Furthermore, hygiene habits are essential among all professionals who work in hospital units. These are the main strategies to overcome this challenge.
