In vitro fertilization (IVF) has emerged as a crucial intervention for couples facing difficulties conceiving. This revolutionary assisted reproduction technique offers a realistic pregnancy opportunity for those whose medical conditions or biological factors prevent natural conception. Over the years, IVF has evolved, becoming a standard procedure in many fertility clinics around the world. However, despite its proven effectiveness, IVF is subject to significant ethical, social and financial considerations. Furthermore, continued research is essential to better understand the outcomes, complications and factors determining success in IVF. Objective:To investigate recent advances, trends and challenges in the treatment of infertility through in vitro fertilization, based on a comprehensive analysis of studies published in the last 10 years. Methodology: The systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. The PubMed, Scielo and Web of Science databases were searched using the descriptors "in vitro fertilization", "infertility", "assisted reproduction", "assisted reproductive techniques" and "infertility treatment". Studies published in the last 10 years that addressed advances, clinical results and complications related to IVF were included. Inclusion criteria were original studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses focusing on IVF and infertility. Exclusion criteria included repeated studies, studies with small samples, and case reports. Results: Analysis of studies revealed advances in embryonic cultivation techniques, improvements in embryo selection and improved IVF success rates. Complications such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and ethical issues surrounding the fate of surplus embryos were discussed. Furthermore, low-cost approaches and equitable access to treatment have emerged as important concerns. Conclusion: IVF continues to play a crucial role in infertility treatment, offering hope and opportunities for many couples. However, ethical, social and financial challenges remain, highlighting the continued need for research and development in this area. A holistic and collaborative approach is essential to address challenges and promote better patient outcomes.
