Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is a complex medical condition that affects not only the physical health but also the emotional, social, and psychological aspects of patients and their families. Nursing plays a crucial role in promoting the mental health of these individuals. Justification: Given the significant implications of stroke, it is essential to investigate how nursing can optimize its interventions to meet the specific needs of patients and families, promoting a better quality of life and addressing the emotional and psychosocial challenges associated with this condition. Objective: This study aims to explore the best nursing practices and strategies in promoting the mental health of patients and families after a stroke, identifying gaps in knowledge and proposing recommendations for a more effective and patient-centered approach. Methods: An integrative literature review will be conducted, including articles published in Portuguese from 2017 onwards on nursing interventions and the psychosocial impact of stroke. The search will be conducted in electronic databases and complemented by manual search in relevant journals. Results: The findings will be presented in the form of a narrative synthesis, highlighting identified nursing practices, gaps in knowledge, and recommendations for future interventions and research. Discussions: The implications of the results for clinical practice and health policy formulation will be addressed, as well as potential study limitations and areas for future investigation. Conclusions: It will emphasize the importance of nursing in promoting post-stroke mental health, highlighting the need for personalized and patient-centered approaches to improve the well-being of these vulnerable individuals.
