Abstract

Firstly, we provide a brief analysis of the panorama of violence in Brazil. An extremely relevant topic that directly affects the lives of millions of Brazilians. Over the years, we have witnessed a worrying increase in crime rates in different regions of the country, requiring deep reflection and effective actions to face this challenge.
To support our analysis, we used statistical data from reliable sources, such as the Brazilian Public Security Forum and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). These numbers provide us with a comprehensive and detailed view of the violence situation in Brazil.
According to the 2021 Violence Atlas, produced by the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA) and the Brazilian Public Security Forum, Brazil recorded a 5.7% increase in the number of homicides between 2019 and 2020.
According to data from the Mortality Information System (SIM), in 2020 more than 50,000 homicides were recorded in the country, an average of approximately 137 deaths per day.
Furthermore, Brazil faces challenges related to domestic violence, with a significant increase in the number of cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, as pointed out by the Secretariat for Women's Policies.
These alarming numbers reflect a series of complex factors that contribute to the violence scenario in Brazil. Issues such as social inequality, lack of access to education and employment opportunities, drug trafficking, illegal weapons and corruption fuel the culture of violence in many Brazilian locations.
The consequences of violence are devastating, impacting not only the direct victims, but also their families and communities. In addition to emotional trauma, violence generates significant economic costs for the country, burdening the health system, public security and the judicial system.

Faced with this scenario, we face the challenge of finding effective solutions to reduce violence and promote security in our country. This requires a joint and coordinated effort between the government, civil society, public security institutions and other relevant sectors.
Investments in public policies to prevent violence, improve socioeconomic conditions, combat drug and weapons trafficking, strengthen security institutions and promote a culture of peace are some of the measures that can contribute to tackling this problem effectively.
Given this scenario, we invite everyone to enter the universe of public security management, a counterpoint to this scenario, being a dynamic and challenging field that aims to promote peace, order and the well-being of society. In this digital book, we will deeply explore the current public security scenario in our country, examining its origins, policies, challenges and strategies to combat crime.
To understand the current public security panorama, it is essential to analyze the roots of crime in our country. Since the beginning of colonization, Brazil has faced challenges related to order and security, many of which persist to this day. Historical, socioeconomic and cultural factors contributed to the formation of a complex web of crime, which ranges from minor offenses to violent and organized crimes.
This book will address the intricacies surrounding public security policy in Brazil and its evolution over time, reflecting social, political and economic changes. Since the promulgation of the Federal Constitution of 1988, which established security as a fundamental right, several initiatives have been implemented to ensure the protection of citizens and the fight against crime. However, persistent challenges, such as the lack of integration between security bodies, corruption and impunity, compromise the effectiveness of public policies in this area.

In its pages, the book addresses the reasons for crime in Brazil, revealing a series of interconnected factors. Structural issues, such as social inequality, lack of access to education, and limited economic opportunities, contribute to the emergence and perpetuation of crime in many communities. Furthermore, problems such as drug trafficking, urban violence and organized crime represent significant challenges for authorities responsible for public security.
Faced with the challenges presented, Brazil has sought to develop and implement a comprehensive and effective National Public Security Plan. This plan involves a series of measures, including strengthening security institutions, investing in technology and intelligence, promoting integration between different levels of government and improving social conditions in vulnerable areas. However, its effectiveness depends on the collaboration and commitment of all actors involved, from government authorities to civil society.
In view of the above, public security management faces complex and multifaceted challenges, which require a comprehensive and integrated approach. In this digital book, we explore the current scenario of public security in Brazil, from its historical origins to current policies and strategies for combating crime. We hope this analysis contributes to a broader and more informed understanding of this important topic and inspires concrete actions to promote peace and security in our society.
Happy reading to everyone,
