One of the causes that contributes to the excessive use of medications is the lack of adequate information and clear explanations of their use. In this context, it is essential to provide accurate data on the risks that medicines can pose to people's health when they are handled inappropriately. It is observed that self-medication has become increasingly common, therefore, pharmacists play a fundamental role in guiding and assisting patients regarding appropriate medication use. In the meantime, this work focuses on pharmaceutical care related to the indiscriminate use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, (also represented by the acronym NSAIDs), with the aim of understanding the classification of NSAIDs, their pharmacology, possible adverse reactions, in addition to the problems associated with the use without professional expertise and pharmaceutical care measures appropriate to this context. To this end, the present research adopts as its methodology the literature review of the field that comprises Pharmacology in a dialogic relationship with other pertinent areas, which includes scientific articles, monographs, dissertations and other relevant academic materials, in order to build a framework theoretical for reflection. This work highlights the importance of the pharmacist as an educator working directly or indirectly in public health, as it promotes the responsible and safe use of medicines, specifically NSAIDs, by the population.
