Abstract

Ozone therapy has emerged as a promising and multidisciplinary therapeutic approach, attracting interest in the pharmaceutical field due to its innovative potential and impact on human health. It involves using a mixture of oxygen and medical ozone to stimulate beneficial biochemical reactions in the body, with applications ranging from treating chronic diseases to promoting cellular regeneration. In the pharmaceutical context, ozone therapy stands out as a complementary alternative to conventional therapies, sparking interest among professionals to explore its applications and mechanisms of action. Pharmacists play a crucial role in integrating ozone therapy into the clinical and therapeutic landscape. Their training in pharmacology, biochemistry, and physiology provides them with a deep understanding of the mechanisms of action of substances used in ozone therapy, as well as their potential interactions with other medications. Additionally, pharmacists' ability to assess the quality and safety of ozonized products is essential to ensure the efficacy and non-toxicity of these formulations. Ozone therapy is administered through various routes and has demonstrated effectiveness in treating extensive wounds, fungal, bacterial, and viral infections, ischemic injuries, and various other conditions, proving particularly effective in wound disinfection and healing. However, improper administration can lead to problems, making trained professionals essential. In veterinary medicine, ozone therapy holds promise and is applied to treat various conditions, strengthening the immune system, promoting cellular regeneration, and controlling infections. An exemplary case involved a dog with a persistent wound that improved with ozone therapy. However, the adoption of this treatment requires careful assessment of the individual needs of the patient. Ozone therapy is considered a valuable therapeutic option in both fields, presenting notable advantages in health promotion and healing. Proper treatment by qualified professionals is crucial to ensure safe and effective outcomes. Therefore, ozone therapy stands out as an essential innovation in the healthcare arena, contributing to improving the quality of life for both humans and animals.
