The aim of this article is to discuss bacterial resistance in children, characterization of the initial what constitutes antibiotic resistance and the factors contributing to this phenomenon. Indiscriminate antibiotic use, non-compliance with the treatment period, and the availability of antibiotics without a prescription are relevant aspects to be considered. Children often receive medication to treat pain, fever, or infections, both in hospital settings and at home. In this context, the presence of qualified professionals and raising awareness among parents or guardians regarding self-medication in children is essential. This exploratory study was performed in the databases: SciELO, Virtual Health Library (BVS), PubMed, World Health Organization (WHO), National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), and reference books.
