This work highlights the use of new technologies in maintenance, especially within the context of Industry 4.0. With increasing pressure to improve the performance of production lines and meet market demands, in addition to the search for maximum profits, the need for more advanced and specific maintenance techniques has become crucial to avoid unplanned downtime. Industry 4.0 brought resources such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Cloud Storage, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which revolutionized the concept of maintenance. This led to the development of prescriptive maintenance (RxM), which, combined with other existing maintenance techniques, enabled the creation of proactive methods to keep assets operating at peak efficiency. This study aims to analyze current practices related to prescriptive maintenance, comparing them with other types of maintenance. It is noteworthy that prescriptive maintenance offers significant gains in the development of action plans and diagnoses of possible failures that could affect production processes. It is based on advanced analysis of data generated by equipment, which can be obtained through sensors, physical monitoring and maintenance plans. By gathering reliable data, it is possible to transform this information into real reliability and availability of assets, helping to make informed decisions in maintenance management.
