This research aims to analyze and expose the advantages and disadvantages of using semaglutide in the treatment of obesity and type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, as well as its main side effects and its impact on patients' long-term health. This is a bibliographic review research, in which articles, periodicals, books and magazines were used to collect data, using Google Scholar as a data search engine. Obesity is currently a public health issue, a global and multifactorial disease, which causes accumulation of the fat layer, adipose tissue, and in many cases is accompanied by Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a consequence of a lack of insulin, that is, the inability of insulin to exert its effects adequately, being a disease related to metabolism. The use of semaglutide has gained prominence in pharmacology, given that the drug is effective in weight loss, and is also used in the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, being an analogue of GLP-1, which has an appetite-inhibiting action, as a result reducing glycemic levels, contributing to weight loss.
