In the present work, we will address, through a bibliographical review, the issue of nursing professionals' care for premature newborns and their families in the hospital environment. To this end, we will discuss data on prematurity in a comparative way, as well as theories, policies, programs and methods that make up the state of the art on the topic in our country. We will also discuss the attitudes of professionals and parents towards the treatment of premature newborns from a technical, human and psychological perspective, as well as the implications of maternal contact and lack of contact with preterm newborns. We decided on an exploratory research methodology and the technical procedure of bibliographic review so that we could expand and develop knowledge about prematurity and its care in Brazil, contributing to the discussion. In our research we will use, for the most part, official data released by the UN, Prematurity Observatory, Fiocruz and Fundação Abrinq, and articles available in aggregators such as SciELO and scientific journals such as Research, Society and Development.
