Abstract

Introduction: Acute coronary syndromes, including acute myocardial infarction, pose significant global health challenges. Primary angioplasty and myocardial revascularization surgery are crucial interventions for addressing these conditions. Methodology: This study utilized secondary data from DATASUS to analyze hospitalizations, deaths, and mortality rates related to primary angioplasty and myocardial revascularization surgery in Brazil in the years 2019, 2021, and 2023. Analysis and Discussion of Results: There was an increase in hospitalizations for primary angioplasty over the years, but also an increase in deaths related to this procedure. Myocardial revascularization surgery had fewer deaths, but fewer patients opted for it. The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact, reducing procedures and increasing mortality. Final Considerations: The results highlight the need for personalized strategies and improvements in the safety of cardiovascular procedures in Brazil. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced additional challenges, such as a reduction in the number of procedures due to contamination fears and the redistribution of healthcare resources, which require adaptation and careful planning in the provision of cardiovascular care.
