Recent studies prove that breast milk can prevent an average of 13% of mortality in children up to 5/6 years old. Objectives: it is to verify, from a narrative review of the literature, what are the reasons that lead mothers to this difficulty in breastfeeding and to show the consequences for not breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: The research was limited to the period from 2018 to 2023, in Portuguese, 30 publications were analyzed, including 16 journals published from the year 2018.
