The article addresses the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of the population, highlighting the emotional and psychological challenges faced during this unprecedented period. The analysis considers the varied effects of the pandemic on different age groups and social groups, as well as the coping and resilience strategies adopted to mitigate the negative impacts. The pandemic has brought with it a significant increase in levels of anxiety, stress and depression around the world. Social isolation, uncertainty about health and the future, as well as changes in living standards contributed to the deterioration of emotional well-being. Vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, such as the elderly, children, health professionals and low-income individuals, were particularly affected, highlighting the need for targeted care. However, the study also highlights the resilience of the population when adopting coping strategies. The search for social support, self-care, the development of a resilient mindset and the search for reliable information emerged as fundamental tools for dealing with emotional challenges. In addition, access to mental health services and professional support were identified as essential elements in promoting emotional well-being. It is imperative that pandemic response actions include measures that protect and promote the mental health of the population. Awareness of the importance of emotional care should be widely disseminated, encouraging the search for help when necessary and destigmatizing the search for psychological support. Promoting equity in access to mental health services and strengthening available resources are crucial steps to address the lasting effects of the pandemic on the mental health of the population.
