The partogram is a graphic representation of labor that allows monitoring and diagnosing changes in order to take appropriate measures to correct deviations to prevent unnecessary interventions. This study aims to report the experience of a nursing academic in the use of the partogram in the follow-up and evolution of labor. It consists of an experience report that addresses experiences linked to the curricular activity of semi-internship in obstetric and pediatric nursing, at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). It is a qualitative look, which expose practices experienced through the descriptive method. The materials used were the following: the printed partogram, Doppler sonar for auscultation of fetal heart beats, a mobile cell phone with an application to assess uterine contractions, a multi-parameter monitor for monitoring vital signs. The devices for the application of non-pharmacological methods for pain relief used were: Swiss ball, wooden massager, massage glove, almond oil, fixed bar or ling ladder. The data come from the experience in the obstetric ward of the PPP (Prepartum, Delivery and Postpartum), during the follow-up and evolution of labor. On the first day of the semi-internship, we were shown the space of the obstetric ward, as well as the work organization of the place. The parturient and her companion were received and accommodated in the PPP. Subsequently, anamnesis and obstetric examination were carried out to record data in medical records. During labor, non-pharmacological methods such as the Swiss ball, ambulation, music therapy, among others, were applied. The evolution of labor was recorded on a partogram and its progression was analyzed by the team. Thus, it is extremely important to mention that the partogram is indispensable in the care of labor, contributing to adequate care, free from harmful practices for the woman and the child.
