IMPLICATIONS ON BIOSAFETY AND IMPORTANCE OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE DENTAL SURGEON DURING THE COVID-19 SCENARIO: INTEGRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

INTRODUCTION: With the first case discovered in mid- to late 2019, in Wuhan, China, the COVID-19 outbreak and social isolation aimed at containing the virus brought several challenges to society. Among them, the need for care by the dentist in a biosafe manner stands out, both for the professional and for the patient. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the evidence on the implications for the performance of the dental professional in view of the COVID-19 scenario and the recent changes in biosafety practices. METHODOLOGY: Integrative literature review carried out in the databases: MEDLINE/PubMed, Scielo, Periódicos CAPES/MEC, BVS, with the Boolean operator “and”, where 20 articles were selected that address the importance of the dental surgeon in the treatment of COVID -19. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: From the study, it was observed that the dental surgeon, being on the front line against the COVID-19 pandemic, coming into direct contact with aerosols, becomes more susceptible to contracting and spreading the virus through contamination crusade. CONCLUSION: Through the integrative study, it is concluded that there is a need for further improvement and development of methods to control the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the dentist and the dental team.
