Abstract

The Flower Therapy is based on a holistic paradigm, in which the Cartesian division between body and mind is overcome by a model that integrates these two elements, in a dimension in which the mind assumes a great importance. It considers the positive emotion as an essential element to establish the health, and the negative to stimulate diseases. Edward Bach was a pioneer in the use of flower essences. In Brazil, the Flower System of Saint Germain was created by Neide Margorani, in 1996. The publication of the Pan-American Health Organization of 25 November 2021 highlights the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the mental health and on the well-being of the populations of the Americas. The present research aimed to identify the most marked flower essences in the period from January to September 2020 in homeopathic drugstores in the municipality of João Pessoa/PB, correlating them with the emotional symptoms caused by the pandemic. Only the Bach Flower System and the Flower System of Saint Germain were mentioned in this study. The results show that from March 2020 only one of the studied drugstores registered an increase in sales of the flower essences of the Bach Flower System, whereas the other maintained a stable level of sales of this product. It was verified that the most marked flower formulas were related to emotional and/or psychic aspects which were strongly present in the pandemic period. With regard to the Saint Germain System, five different formulations were referred, and with regard to the flower essences of Bach, apart from the Rescue formulation, there was an increase in the marketing of the Aspen, Impatiens, Impatiens, Cherry Plum, Olive, Star of Bethlehem, Walnut, White Chestnut and Holly essences. This increase was more expressive from June 2020, what can be related to the moment of the pandemic, in which the symptoms caused by the social isolation were more clear and intense.
