DESCRIPTION OF THE PROFILE OF PREGNANT WOMEN ASSISTED IN PRIMARY CARE IN A MUNICIPALITY IN THE SOUTHERN MINAS GERAIS

Introduction: Aiming to promote health to the pregnant woman and the fetus, the prenatal service allows continuous assistance to both the pregnant woman and the child, reducing perinatal risks and allowing timely interventions. Access to health services and the quality of care for women during pregnancy have an influence on the favorable evolution of maternal and child health indicators. Socioeconomic conditions have a strong influence in this context. The importance of this study lies in the fact that prenatal care is used as an indicator of good practices, as well as a measure of the quality of clinical and public health care. Objective: To characterize the profile of pregnant women assisted in primary care in a municipality in the south of Minas Gerais. Method: It consists of a quantitative study of a descriptive nature where a structured form was used, in which the following items were investigated: age, education, gestational period, profession, health services used during pregnancy, most sought after health professional and resoluteness of the health problem for the service sought. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of UNIFENAS, number 119/2010. Results: Twenty pregnant women were interviewed, aged between 20 and 30 years (55%), with incomplete primary education (35%), incomplete secondary education (25%), complete secondary education (35%) and complete higher education (5% ), have no paid activity (85%), the nurse is the health professional most sought after by pregnant women (80%), where it is in the public service that the majority (90%) of pregnant women are assisted when they need care, and 70% report having the problem solved by this service. Conclusion: It is concluded that health care in the municipality has been carried out, mainly by the Basic Health Units, transforming primary care into a “gateway” to the Unified Health System, where the nurse has a representative role in this scenery.
