WORK ACCIDENT WITH EXPOSURE TO BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL IN THE NORTHEAST REGION OF BRAZIL BETWEEN 2019 TO 2022: EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY

Introduction: Work accidents with biological agents are characterized by the direct contact of the worker with materials contaminated with blood or other organic fluids during the execution of some function in the labor sector. In this scenario, there is a risk of the patient contracting infectious diseases, harming their health and causing a great impact on their lives. Objective: To describe the sociodemographic profile of accidents at work with exposure to biological material in the northeast region of Brazil, between the years 2019 to 2022. Method: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective study, with a quantitative approach to data related to the work accident with exposure to biological material through the Department of Informatics of the Single System of SUS - Ministry of Health (DATASUS-MS) from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), in the years 2019 to 2022 in the northeast region of Brazil. The variables involved in the research were the following: age group, sex, schooling, pregnancy and clinical evolution. Results: In the analyzed period, 45,713 cases of work accidents were reported, with a higher frequency in adults aged 20-34 years (54.17), females (75.30), with 406 women of gestational age and complete high school ( 38.90). Regarding the clinical situation, there were only 3 deaths related to the injury and recovery of 21,123 patients. Conclusion: The numbers presented in this study point to the need to adopt measures of surveillance, promotion and prevention in health, aiming at reducing the problem.
