In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology that relies on the integration of clinical and laboratory procedures to enable fertilization and embryo development. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the importance of technical rigor and standardization of laboratory routines in IVF, from gamete processing to embryo culture, assessment, selection, and cryopreservation, highlighting the role of biomedical professionals qualified in Human Reproduction. This study consists of a qualitative, descriptive literature review conducted through searches in the PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases, as well as scientific articles, books, and technical documents related to the subject. The literature analysis indicated that the quality of laboratory procedures is associated with the proper handling of gametes, control of environmental conditions during embryo culture, morphological embryo assessment, sample identification and traceability, and implementation of quality control protocols. Furthermore, standardized procedures and professional training were identified as essential for the safety and consistency of laboratory practices. In this context, biomedical professionals qualified in Human Reproduction play an important role in performing and monitoring laboratory procedures. It is concluded that the quality of laboratory routines is essential for the proper implementation of IVF techniques, although clinical outcomes also depend on biological and clinical factors.
