Dental care for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents challenges related to behavioral and sensory characteristics, as well as barriers that may hinder access to care. This study aimed to analyze the importance of management strategies associated with dentist training in the dental care of children with ASD. This literature review was conducted through searches in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, considering primary studies published between 2016 and 2026 in Portuguese and English. Following selection and critical analysis, 21 scientific articles were included and organized into three thematic areas: difficulties and barriers to care, management strategies, and professional training. The results highlighted obstacles related to the availability of professionals, conditions of access to services, and children's individual needs. Strategies such as visual aids, gradual desensitization, and sensory adaptations showed favorable outcomes in different aspects of care, although their effects varied across studies. Regarding professional training, associations with higher levels of dentists' knowledge and confidence were identified. It was concluded that combining individualized management strategies with adequate professional training may contribute to dental care that is more accessible, welcoming, and tailored to the needs of children with ASD.
