This article aimed to discuss Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), a rare, benign, and self-limiting condition frequently described in association with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A case report with an literature review was conducted to illustrate and discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of this complex and uncertain association. The case involved a female patient with a history of autoimmunity who presented with KFD confirmed by excisional lymph node biopsy and a simultaneous diagnosis of SLE. The review showed that KFD and SLE are diagnosed concomitantly in 51% of cases, KFD precedes SLE in 31%, and SLE precedes KFD in 18%. Self-limiting KFD usually resolves with supportive treatment but may require corticosteroid therapy in cases of recurrence or association with SLE. Excisional biopsy is necessary for diagnostic confirmation. Screening for SLE and outpatient follow-up are crucial due to the high rate of association between the two conditions, reinforcing that KFD may be part of the spectrum of autoimmune disease.
