MULTIDISCIPLINARY TREATMENT OF INFLAMMATORY FIBROUS HYPERPLASIA ASSOCIATED WITH A MALADAPTED COMPLETE DENTURE: CASE REPORT

Abstract

 This article aimed to report a clinical case of inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia associated with prolonged use of an ill-fitting upper complete denture. This is a case report of a 54-year-old female patient who had used the same upper complete denture for approximately fifteen years without periodic dental follow-up. Clinical examination revealed a fibrous nodular lesion in the left upper vestibular sulcus. As a methodology, hygiene guidance, temporary suspension of prosthesis use, surgical excision by electrosurgery under local anesthesia and referral for histopathological examination were performed. As results, histopathological examination confirmed inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia and follow-up showed adequate healing, functional improvement and absence of recurrence. It is concluded that removal of the traumatic factor associated with surgical excision proved effective, highlighting the importance of periodic follow-up and prosthetic maintenance.
