ENUCLEATION OF A RADICULAR CYST ASSOCIATED WITH PARENDODONTIC SURGERY: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the surgical approach of radicular cyst enucleation associated with parendodontic surgery, highlighting its effectiveness in the treatment of persistent periapical lesions. It reports a clinical case of a 35-year-old male patient who presented with an extensive cystic lesion in the periapical region of teeth 21, 22, and 23, with rupture of the buccal and palatal cortical plates. The therapeutic approach involved complete enucleation of the cyst, followed by curettage, irrigation with saline solution, parendodontic surgery, and partial reconstruction of the bone defect using particulate graft and resorbable membrane. Postoperative follow-up demonstrated adequate tissue healing and absence of recurrence, with radiographic evidence of progressive bone regeneration. The results obtained corroborate the current literature, which identifies enucleation as an effective and conservative procedure for the resolution of radicular cysts, achieving success rates between 80% and 90% in terms of bone repair. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of precise surgical planning and the use of advanced diagnostic technologies, such as cone-beam computed tomography, to ensure safety and predictability of results. It is concluded that radicular cyst enucleation associated with parendodontic surgery represents a safe and efficient therapeutic alternative, contributing to the preservation of masticatory function, esthetics, and oral health.
