DIGITAL DOCUMENT PRESERVATION POLICIES IN LIBRARIES: A BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REVIEW

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze digital document preservation policies adopted by libraries, considering the challenges imposed by technological obsolescence, format diversity, and the need for continuous access. A qualitative and exploratory study was conducted through a bibliographic and documentary survey, with the aim of mapping the strategies and guidelines implemented by these institutions. The analysis revealed that, although there are initiatives aligned with international models such as OAIS, many libraries still face difficulties regarding technical structure, staff training, and financial resources. The most identified practices were format migration, geographic replication, use of metadata, and emulation, all aimed at ensuring the integrity and authenticity of documents. However, the effective implementation of these strategies still requires investment and continuous planning. The study concluded that interinstitutional cooperation and the use of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, represent promising paths for strengthening digital preservation policies in the library scenario.
