BETWEEN HEADLINES AND TRIALS: THE INFLUENCE ON THE JURY COURT FROM THE GABRIEL CASE IN RIO GRANDE DO NORTE

Abstract

This article analyzes the influence of the media on decisions of the Jury Court in Brazil, especially in high-profile cases. It starts from the hypothesis that jurors' exposure to media coverage may compromise the impartiality of the trial, violating constitutional principles of due process. The methodology includes literature review, document analysis, qualitative interviews, and case studies. The results indicate the need to set limits on media activity in criminal trials in order to preserve the legitimacy of decisions and strengthen public trust in the judicial system.
